Milestone for Offshore Wind with First Power at Seagreen for Total Energies and SSE
Major news this week for our Frontier Energy Member, TotalEnergies and its partner SSE Renewables, when they announced first power production from the Seagreen #windfarm as the first wind turbine was commissioned and connected to the grid, just off the coast of North East Scotland.
Soon to be the largest of its kind in the country, the wind farm is also the world’s deepest project of this kind, using bottom-fixed foundations.
Once fully operational in 2023, the 1.1GW wind farm will be capable of generating enough renewable energy per annum to provide electricity for more than 1.6 million UK homes - a milestone for offshore wind and homegrown energy production in the UK.
